Lake Plastira

Holidays in Greece 8 April 2026

The stunning area of “Lake Plastira” in Karditsa is one that attracts large numbers of visitors, who are drawn here by the peaceful natural setting.

Lake Plastira is actually a man-made project, and not a natural lake. It was created in order to support the dam that supplies water to the whole region of Thessaly.

The project was the vision of the politician Nikolaos Plastiras, from where the lake takes its name.

The greater areas of Lake Plastira are one of immense natural beauty where visitors will find all of the beautiful elements, perfecting forming together to create a scenery filled with lovely colours.

One of the main characteristics of the region are the charming fir forests that stretch out all over the region. There are many routes that will take visitors on lovely walks around the forests and mountains, from which you can enjoy some spectacular panoramic views of the greater area and the lake itself.

Around Lake Plastira are a lovely collection of small villages and towns, such as the forest village of Dryades. Each of these villages have with their own unique charm and beauty. These villages are perfect for visiting, providing visitors with a fascinating insight into the traditional and cultural heritage of them, as well as being an excellent way of exploring some of hidden jewels of the Lake Plastira and Karditsa regions.

Lake Plastira is a paradise in the heart of mainland Greece, and a place where you can enjoy the holidays of your dreams. Its perfect setting, beauty, inspiration and charm will provide visitors with the perfect setting in which to enjoy some truly unique holidays and experiences.
